Story
21% of girls and 11% of boys in the UK experience some form of child sexual abuse. 23% of women and 3% of men experience sexual assault as an adult. 5% of women and 0.4% of men will experience rape.
However, it is estimated that 40% of adults who are raped tell no one about it.
Rape, sexual violence and sexual assault have long lasting consequences. According to Rape Crisis UK, these include post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and panic attackes, depression, social phobia, substance abuse, obesity, eating disorders, self harm and suicide, domestic violence and in some cases, offending behaviour. Child sexual abuse can affect educational attainment.
As a victim myself, I know how important work done by charities like Rape Crisis really is for people affected by rape. Please take a moment to donate.
