DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal. We fund pioneering research and provide care and support to individuals and families living with EB.

Story

As many of my lovely family and friends know I work as a Paediatric Dermatologist......I absolutely love my work and along the way I have been inspired and humbled by so many of the brave patients, and amazing specialist staff whom I have had the privilege to meet or work alongside.

In  recent years I have been particularly involved with caring for a group of inspiring and courageous patients with a skin disease called EB.  Children born with EB have skin that blisters at the slightest touch and many children with the disease have such fragile skin they have to endure lifelong daily often painful bandages changes, sometimes loss of hand or limb function, constant pain and in many cases the illness is severely life limiting.

The dedicated colleagues that care for them and many of these amazing children and their families have  been a wonderful inspiration to me and they have so often, whilst facing simple day to day tasks, shown great humour and courage despite constant pain.

Following the recent death of my Grandfather(Reginald Brenton) a giant of a man with a humour and positivity that was infectious,  I truly feel that It would be both an honour and a privilege with their similar inspirational qualities that both I and my amazing partner in crime Jo Stringer(with 7 or maybe we should call it 9 boys between us) run for this worthwhile charity supporting children & their families with EB and that the offering from my grandfathers funeral will also help support the continued amazing work that DEBRA with families  and children affected by EB.
