Emma's on a Mission AGAIN!

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Twenty-one months ago, I couldn’t even run a mile and in a total moment of madness I took on the challenge to run the 2020 London Marathon to support my husband’s ongoing battle with incurable bowel cancer. Challenge undertaken and after the strangest year for us all, with the additional complexity of COVID-19, I completed the virtual London marathon on 4th October 2020 in 5:45:16! It was gruelling, both in the training and on the day due to horrendous weather but I got the job done!
So now, with over 1,500 miles run since this crazy adventure begun, it’s time for me to step up again as time is sadly not on our side.
Steve’s bowel cancer has been confirmed as incurable, following the confirmation that he has the rare BRAF mutation. BRAF not only makes the cancer very aggressive but statistically it makes his prognosis far more challenging. He’s undergone a huge operation, 25 lots of radiotherapy, 3 lots of CyberKnife and clocked up 45 rounds of chemotherapy so far.
Sadly I alone cannot cure Steve, however if putting myself through another 1,000 miles of gruelling training and a literal marathon mission. We can raise additional funding for Bowel Cancer UK to support the ongoing research into this horrid disease. Then maybe the future could be brighter for us and the many other thousands of families affected by bowel cancer. They have already fought to secure Steve extra drugs for the future, so we are truly grateful of their work.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and supporting my plight.
Emma xx
