We support young adults living with cancer to rebuild their lives after a diagnosis

Story

I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2020 aged 34. Earlier this year I found out my cancer had spread and is now incurable Secondary Breast Cancer and I will be on treatment for the rest of my life.

Throughout my ongoing treatment I've been doing my best to live a joyful life which is not totally dominated by cancery doom. If I can get outside in the fresh air, I'm happy. I run to keep putting one foot in front of the other, to keep calm, to keep going. So I'm asking you to chuck me a few quid to do some good for a terrific charity who have really helped me and other people who get cancer in their 20s, 30s and 40s - Shine Cancer Support.

Getting cancer at any age is truly terrible, but getting it young can be especially isolating. You feel like (and often are) the only young person in the chemo waiting room or at the cancer support groups aimed at retired people. Old age doesn't necessarily bring security, financial or otherwise, but getting cancer in your 20s, 30s and 40s during the time of your life where you're just starting out, working your way up or have a young family, is undeniably tough. That's why a charity specifically for people in their 20s, 30s and 40s is so unique and so important. SHINE has brought me into contact with other young people who just "get it", and we've become friends and that means so much.

I really hope to do more events to raise money for the charities which have helped me and others in my situation.

Shine supports adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. Too old for children and teenage services but too young for traditional cancer support, we support the people who fall into a devastating cancer support gap.
