Emma's Aberdovey Bike Ride

ABERDOVEY BIKE RIDE · 17 June 2022
On 17th June 2022, I’ll be embarking on a 100 mile bike ride, riding from Wolverhampton to Aberdovey as part of an organised event, and my aim is to raise as much money as I can for Autism West Midlands. https://aberdoveybikeride.co.uk
Autism West Midlands is the leading charity in the West Midlands for people on the autism spectrum. They use their expertise to enrich the lives of autistic people and those who love and care for them. Their passionate, expert staff and volunteers work across all age groups and abilities, providing direct support for autistic children and adults and their families and carers, striving for a world where autistic people are universally understood and accepted as equal citizens.
There are more than half a million autistic people living in the UK, an invisible and misunderstood disability; 60,000 live in the West Midlands. One of those 60,000 is our 13 year old son, George, He is a wonderful, loving boy. We are so proud of him, as school and friendships are a real struggle and often a cause of upset and anxiety, but he meets every day with enthusiasm and vigour. I know that there are many families like us and many wonderful autistic people facing daily challenges, with expectations that they fit into the demands of the neurotypical world. I wanted to do something to raise awareness and some funds for the brilliant work of Autism West Midlands, who support children adults and families as they navigate their journey with autism.
22% of young people with autism said they had no friends, with 65% saying they would like more friends. Only 15% of adults with autism in the UK are in full time paid employment, and 61% of those out of work say they want to work. Any funds raised to support Autism West Midlands helps them in turn, to support autistic children and adults to get closer to their goal of being understood and accepted as equal citizens.
If you’re able to support and sponsor me for this event that would be beyond brilliant and I’d be so grateful. Thank you!
