Story
You may know us personally or you may have watched us on the first series of ONE BORN EVERY MINUTE: either way, you know that the children's Intensive Care Unit did a great job of looking after this family when William (Triplet 3) needed surgery to remove a cyst in one of his lungs when he was just a few months old. You might not know that they also looked after him (and me) leading up to and following two other operations before we finally took him home just before his first birthday. And they also looked after him (and me) following an emergency admission when he was just 14 months old. Time to give something back, I think!
William was a super patient, by all accounts. No matter how scared the rest of us were, each time he woke up on PICU, he would smile and just get on with it. All the staff were brilliant; I don't know how they cope with such tiny customers, such daily trauma and such shattered parents - but they do.
Tragically and out of the blue, a stupid virus took William away from us when he was at home, happy and otherwise healthy, aged just 20 months. But the 20 months was long enough for me to learn some of his ways. So, I'm going to smile and just get on with it, too! We've raised money for all the other departments that have looked after William (and his brothers Nicholas and Robin) but had overlooked PICU. Then someone suggested I did the Great South Run for them - and it seemed like a good idea until just after I signed up. But no going back, now!
In my devastation at losing William, running is one of the things that is helping to keep me sane. Unlike so many of the props you can reach for when you are very sad, running gives you back your appetite and makes you tired enough to sleep a bit, too.
So if you would like to help raise some money for this excellent unit in memory of William AND inspire me to keep running, smiling and sane, please give what you can. As I am the mum of triplets, 3 is my favourite number and so I'm aiming to raise £300. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thanks for any contribution you can make.
