Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
SO I'm running the London Marathon. That's a sentence I never thought I'd write. Many people always assume I would make a good runner as I'm pretty tall...however they are hugely mistaken!
Although I was secretly entered into the London Marathon without my knowledge...thanks again Michael Bird!! I was quite pleased as I realised how difficult it is to get a place through the ballot and how if I was able to do it, it would be a massive achievement. I felt this way for all of 2 days before the realisation set in that I'd have to train throughout winter, in the dark, rain, ice and wind. I also realised pretty quickly that it is nearly impossible to train for a marathon when you live in a small town like Buckingham, especially when trying to run in 'street lit' areas to convince myself I'm not being chased. I save my longer runs for the weekend when I'm not restricted by the evenings, but I still have a long way to go to reach the big 26...many tears have been shed when I've remembered this whilst running!!
However I'm doing it for a great cause, I have decided to run the Marathon for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my three Grandparents who all sadly passed away due to heart related illnesses. Heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK and is responsible for 75,000 deaths per year.
My wonderful nan who we lost 2 years ago suffered with heart related problems in the last 15 years of her life where she had to undergo a triple heart bypass. By having this major but successful operation we were able to spend another 10 years with her. This is why I'm a huge supporter of the British Heart Foundation and the work they do.
Thanks for for taking the time to read about why I'm running the Marathon. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, however small, it all adds up!
Emma xx
