World Vision Chilean Earthquake Response · 29 May 2010

World Vision believes that by working together with children, their communities, and our supporters and partners, the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children can be transformed. As a Christian organisation, we aspire to reflect God’s unconditional love in all we do.

Story

I am doing the Three Peaks Challenge to independly raise money for World Vision's Chilean Earthquake Response. The devastating earthquake and tsunami hit Chile’s coastal towns killing hundreds, bringing down buildings and affecting an estimated 2 million people who desperately need our help.

Within 48 hours, World Vision was distributing blankets and water containers from its Santiago warehouse to earthquake survivors. They are gearing up for a large-scale relief effort in the worst-hit areas of the country: water tanks, water purification tablets, cooking items, hygiene kits, blankets and lanterns will be rushed to families in and around Concepcion as soon as possible.

Every penny I raise on here will go to World Vision and help Chile recover from this devastating natural disaster.

£12 can pay for emergency cooking equipment for one family

£42 can buy two water filtering kits

£86 can provide one emergency survival kit

Described as one of the UK's ultimate challenges, the Three Peaks requires climbers to reach the top of the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours.

We begin with a morning ascent of Ben Nevis (1344m) before transferring to the Lake District and climbing Scafell Pike (978m) through the night. We then have an early morning ascent of Snowdon (1085m) to complete the challenge.

With over 3000m of non-technical climbing, over 10 hours in a minibus, eating at strange times, walking through the night and hiking over rough ground, this truly is a challenge to remember.
