Hi Guys, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I'm taking part in the Great Manchester 10k Run next May for Kidney Research UK.
Don't expect me to break any records or be fighting fit! It's a just a bit of fun for a good cause and it'd be great if you could help me out a little along the way!
If you know me, or you're my friend, you're probably already aware of why this charity is close to my heart, but for those of you who don't, here's a little insight!
My younger brother, Mark, suffered with FSGS, a form of Nephrotic Syndrome in children which causes Kidney Failure. Subsequently Mark had his Kidneys removed. He was put onto dialysis for a short time before having a Kidney transplant. However, Mark's condition returned and his new kidney also failed. After years of hospital treatment, a stroke and several medical scares, Mark is now on Haemodialysis long-term, or at least for the foreseeable future. He travels to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital 3 times a week to undergo treatment for 4 hours. Without treatment like this, people like Mark wouldn't survive.
Over 3 million people in the UK alone are affected by kidney disease of some form. Currently, there is no cure, but with the generous help of others, Kidney Research UK are dedicated to funding research aimed at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure for kidney disease.
Thankyou loads for taking the time to read my page, I'd appreciate it lots if you could help me out! However big or small, your donations make a difference, every penny counts, literally.
Lots of love,
Emma
