Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is exactly 5
years ago this week (January 2005) that I was back in hospital having my final round of
chemotherapy to treat acute leukaemia. I am very pleased and relieved that I am
still in remission! 5 years is a significant number - although not impossible,
it would be unusual for the illness to reappear at this
stage.
Many of you followed
my London Marathon progress 3 years ago.....and on April 25th 2010 I am, once
again, taking part in the newly-named Virgin London Marathon! I have been very
fortunate to be given a "Golden Bond" place by the charity Leukaemia CARE. I
have been involved with this charity for over a year now. It is a charity that
focuses on caring for and supporting people whose lives have been affected by
leukaemia and other blood cancers/disorders. The charity has a 24-hour CARE line, and regional teams around the UK who provide support to patients and
their families. For the past year I have been involved as a regional volunteer
for the charity. I have been through training in listening skills, and am able
to provide a listening ear to people who have
been affected by leukaemia.
I have been keeping fit and running regularly, and completed a local Half Marathon in October 2009. On January 4th I started a 16-week London Marathon training plan, which I am really hoping will help me to complete the Marathon in under 5 hours! I shall be training 3-4 times a week.
Many
of you sponsored me so very generously 3 years ago, and I want nobody to feel
under any pressure to sponsor me again. I realise that the economic climate has
changed greatly. If you felt able to sponsor me a small amount, that would be
wonderful, but please, please do not feel under any pressure to do so.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Thank you :)
