2 years ago I entered my first Race for Life (5km walk) after loosing a very dear friend to Cancer. Since then I have experienced even more pain and suffering due this terrible disease. However due to the work of Cancer Research UK I have also experienced the joys of loved ones beating their illness meaning they have an opportunity to carry on and live life to the full.
As the number of people who get diagnosed with Cancer keeps on growing, it won’t be long till everyone knows someone affected by this disease. So for all those out there who have had support, need it now or in the future, I have set myself a challenge to help raise money to find a way to beat this monster.
With encouragement from my friends I committed to going from ‘couch to 10km’ in just 6 weeks. Taking a training plan that takes 8-14 weeks and stripping it to just 6 seems a huge challenge to me as I am not a natural runner. However, to increase the challenge even further in hope of gaining more support and more donations I have signed up to compete in 2 x 10km events!
I shall be running the Race for Life Temple Newsam 10km on 22 June and then racing the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10km on 14 July 2013. With two different types of terrain (trail and road) and only 6 weeks to get from couch to 10km the challenge is on!
My first week of training has bought with it rain, pain and suffering! However, I can’t imagine it to be anywhere near as distressing as tests, surgery, treatments and the fight against cancer.
Please support me and donate what you can (even if it’s just £1) as knowing we can make a difference will keep me going to achieve this challenge.
