Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am getting really excited about running the London Marathon in 2012, the Olympic year.
Due to a foot injury, I've not run very far for nearly 2 years. There was a time when I found it hard to walk and started cycling instead and have struggled to get back to fitness. Although doing as much as my body would allow, I could not start my training till late February. After only 4 weeks training, a cold stopped me for a further 2 weeks. I have just completed the Hastings Half marathon as part of that training and cycled just over 50 miles to get to Hastings early in the morning before starting the race!. However, all this hard work and effort is nothing compared to the love and dedication Natalie gives to her daughter, 8 year old Lana. Lana has Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension a condition which has taken her to hospital over 40 times in the last 3 years.
She has had spinal surgeries, abdominal surgeries, lumbar puncture, and in December 2011, she had brain surgery to insert a shunt into her brain. The shunt drains the excess fluid from around her brain, stops her from going blind, helps with the crippling headaches and lets her lead her life the best she can despite her symptoms.
Lana is an extremely brave and wonderful little girl. She never complains, just keeps going as best she can. She wants people to know that she's different but doesn't want to be treated differently. You can watch her video which was made before her latest surgery -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZdELPBwBz4
There is no cure for IIH - only treatments. To read more about IIH please go to www.iih.org.uk.
