Tobias and I are going to be heading over the Italian Alps this summer. We will be joining a group of highly trained and committed riders in the Action for Diabetics cycling challenge. This is a 6 day, 650km, 10 000m ascent ride from Bormio in North East Italy to Lake Como in the West, and we will be pushing ourselves up and over some of Italy´s toughest mountain passes.

While we might prefer to relax on a boat deck, we will be pushing ourselves to support a very worthy cause:  raising funds to help young Type 1 diabetics in the poorest areas of South East Asia. We hope you will support us by donating - any amount is welcome 10 - 20 - 30 ....

WHY

Mette and I have chosen to support this cause as it combines our backgrounds in Asia, healthcare, and the Danish diabetes legacy. Furthermore, the initiator of Action4Diabetics, Charles Toomey, is a personal friend with an incredible high level of integrity.

BACKGROUND

If left untreated, Type 1 diabetes is hugely debilitating and eventually fatal to children who develop the condition early on in their lives. Unfortunately, children in underdeveloped regions of SE Asia (including parts of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand) simply do not have access to the healthcare and education they need to survive this manageable condition.

on Action4Diabetics (A4D)

A4D is a UK Registered Charity that relieves
suffering, saves lives, inspires hope and creates opportunity for young people with Type 1 diabetes from poor communities in SE Asia. Main focus countries for A4D in 2017 are Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. 100% of funds raised on A4D Challenges, including the ‘Italian Job’, are used directly in country to purchase life saving medical supplies, and provide life changing educational and developmental support. Every USD 500 raise will help keep one young Type 1 diabetic alive for another year. (Action4Diabetics – UK Charity Registration number – 1166557)
