I’m excited to share with everyone that I have been given the opportunity to volunteer overseas with a charity organisation called Challanges Worldwide on an International Citizen Service placement. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development globally much like myself. This summer I'll be in Uganda for 3 months working alongside a in-host volunteer from Uganda to help provide training and introduce projects into small to medium sized local enterprises. The aim of this is to develop the businesses in the short to long run in order to not only attract foreign investment into the businesses in but to stimulate a chain of growth and establish a direction for businesses which will reduce  unemployment and the negative effects associated with it such as poverty. This will be a small step in the long battle for sustainable development of African Countries. 

The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of Challanges Worldwide and their ICS partners. The money raised will go towards enabling the overall costs of ICS, ensuring they can to continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities. 

Amongst other things, I’ll be taking part in a live below the poverty line Challange for 5 days in order to understand what poverty feels like.  You can keep track of how I get on here on my Justgiving page or https://m.facebook.com/estelle.vroom.
