Story
North London Cares is a community network of young professionals and older neighbours hanging out and helping one another in North London.
They do this because our capital is a place of social extremes. While it's one of the most dynamic places in the world - full of cultural and economic opportunities and a hotbed of innovation - it can also be anonymous, lonely, and isolating for those who do not have the capability, connections, or confidence to enjoy London.
To tackle this, North London Cares' Social Clubs bring neighbours together to share time while carrying out fun group activities including dance parties, cooking clubs, yoga, and more. And for those older people who struggle to get out, North London Cares' Love Your Neighbour programme matches them with young professionals for weekly one-to-one company, conversation, and companionship.
I have been working with this charity since I moved to London, which means a great deal to me personally as I have connected with older neighbours, and felt a part of the community.
I am running in the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for North London Cares and below are a few examples of what a donation could fund:
- £5 could buy the tea and biscuits for a Social Club
- £10 could fund the community venue hire
- £20 could make a run activity possible
- £268 could fund a Social Club from start to finish
