Raising Funds For Birmingham Children's Hospital · 2 December 2015

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Following on from the page https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/Eva-Grace-Berrey where we raised £1200 for the Neonatal Ward at Birmingham Children's Hospital we want to continue raising funds for BCH as a whole due to the great work that they do on a daily basis and for the on-going care that they have been and will be providing for our baby girl Eva.

At 12 days old Eva went in to BCH for an MRI scan to investigate what we thought was a tumour near to her pituitary gland. The scan revealed that Eva had in fact got a Giant Aneurysm.  Aneurysms are normally about 1cm x 1cm and are rare in adults, very rare in children and almost unheard of in babies. Eva's aneurysm is even rarer and is classified as 'giant' due to the fact that it was the size of a tennis ball!!

Eva was admitted to BCH for what was the worst week of both mine and my wife Beth's life. Due to Eva's condition being so rare, specialists were brought over from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to perform an Angiogram where they filled the aneurysm with platinum coils to stop the blood flowing it to it and reducing the risk of it rupturing. Eva spent some time in intensive care before being moved back to the neonatal ward for recovery.

Eva will need regular check ups and scans for the rest of her life, and she will need to be monitored to see if the aneurysm has any long term affects on her development. But to look at Eva today, you wouldn't have a clue what she has gone through and what she has in her little head. She is such a happy little girl. We also received the results from Eva's first major check up and MRI scan today (December 2nd), and we are so thankful that everything appears to be doing what it should be following her operation.

We will be doing a number of fundraising events over the coming months and this page is to help raise as much money and to accept donations for BCH just to say thank you for not only everything that they have done for our little girl, but for all of the great work that they do on a daily basis for many other sick children. So if you can, please do make a donation.

As well as raising money for BCH, we are also raising money for Ronald McDonald House. An amazing charity that provides free accommodation, food and subsidised parking to parents whose children are having to stay in hospital. They rely solely on donations and we are so thankful to them for letting us stay near to our daughter at our time in need. If you can, please split any donation between this page for BCH, but also the below page for Ronald McDonald House:
