Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When I was six years old my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through various medical treatment she was thought to be in remission for six more years. Devastatingly when I was 12 years old the tumour was rediscovered, and 4 years ago it spread to other parts of her body. Despite her courageous battle she passed away 2 years ago at the young age of 45.

I have countless reasons why I am passionate about representing Cancer Research UK in the London Marathon 2014. The most personal reason I have is from the persuasion I find within myself from the memories of my mother, to race for the cause in her memory, for a charity that is racing itself towards the finish line of new treatments and finally a cure, would be something that she would firmly support me for wishing to do. A full marathon in itself requires courage, continual strength, perseverance and a heart full of hope for the final cause, all of these qualities I saw beautifully through my mother during her battle against her illness. Now that I have the opportunity to take part in the London Marathon representing Cancer Research UK I will do so showing every quality of elegant fighting strength I learnt from my wonderful mother, and every stride of my race I promise to do so with a smile of optimistic kindness on my face.

A huge reason why I would love for your supporting sponsorship, is for what I wish to give to other people. When my mother was first supposedly in remission from breast cancer and healthy, we were given the most precious gift of time. This extended time is the most kind form of relief from the unhappiness that cancer brings, and I strongly have the wish that by my efforts of raising money that other people can experience such a relief, and have the opportunity to make important memories and love each other for longer. Through supporting Cancer Research UK their advances in medical treatments has the potential to offer people this precious time, which I wish to be one of the consequence of raising funds through racing in the London Marathon 2014.

Recently my marathon training strength has been directed to remembering my parents in a way that would make them proud. The first irrationalised thought I first had towards applying to the London Marathon I shared instantly with my father. From the first moment he devotedly supported me with everything I was doing, allowing the marathon to become mine and my father's joint project. Whether it was curing my fears of my application form being rejected, helping with my disappointment of a poor run, or even helping me organizing sponsorship ideas. Without fail my father was my complete centre of support. On the 2nd October 2013 my father devastatingly died. I will never lose vision throughout my life of his overwhelming love and enthusiasm that he gave to me the day I received my acceptance letter, from Cancer Research UK. Through everything both my parents raised me to be, I have within me motivation, strength and positive enthusiasm. Because of this, despite the hardships of recent years, I am still beside myself with excitement to run the upcoming London Marathon. With your support towards my cause, I shall be a blur of pink and inevitably smiling! Thank you.
