Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our page in memory of Evelyn Humphreys of Binley Woods, Warwickshire. Sadly this inspirational lady, beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law, friend, neighbour, passed away peacefully at home on the 5th March 2021.

Funeral arrangements are now in place, for Wednesday 24th March at Rainsbrook Crematorium in Rugby at 1pm. Sadly due to COVID-19 the numbers are limited, However for those wishing  to pay their respects and say goodbye we would welcome seeing you as we travel from her home in Binley woods at approx 12.10/15pm or outside the crematorium a little before 1pm. We are asking that in memory of Evelyn that all attending wear or carry something Turquise or Teal her favourite colour.

Evelyn  a former RAF radar operator moved to the village in 1956 with her Husband Arthur.  She went on to become one of the oldest residents and during which time she served on the Parish Council, then Borough Council as well as being Mayor of Rugby in 1989/90. During which time she "persuaded" the parks and gardens department and the council to take part in Britain in Bloom and Rugby went on to win on several occasions, something she was very proud of. Evelyn was also one of the founder members of the WI in Binley Woods.

During her time on council she was involved in the development of the Bungalows for older residents on Coombe Drive, and up until a few months before her passing she continued to work on trying to get more provision for residents within the village.

Even though her council days had long passed she continued to be proactive in working for the good of Binley Woods, from researching, writing and attempting to persuade the powers that be on several matters for the village, including trying to get the provision of blood tests in the village, and a wild flower garden amongst other things.

As a long-standing supporter of Myton Hospices  we feel it is fitting that rather than flowers, we would appreciate donations to this worthy organisation in her memory.
