St Peter's is a busy urban church in Furze Platt, Maidenhead engaged with people of all ages in our local community. We are looking to raise £85,000 in 2011/12 to complete the funds to build a New Church Centre - part of our plan to expand the community facilities and activities we offer.

Update 06th Aug - 09 pm (Austria):

Mission impossible accomplished !!

Reached the top in very nice weather conditions and before a change of weather closed in. I cycled down safely on the other side, although I was a split second away from a high speed collision with a sheep !! Check out the posted pictures & videos (also the video with the sheep encounter). The YouTube links are to be found further down below in the update text (==> not under videos on the left).

£ 1800 is quite a chunk of money - every penny, cent, €, $ and £ counts.

You can still sponsor me until end of November 2011.

Thank you very much, Ewald

On Saturday, 06 August 2011, I will cycle up the Grossglockner pass in Austria and of course down the other side ('that's the fun stuff'), to raise funds for the Open Church Project of St. Peters church CofE, Maidenhead (Berkshire).

It will be a journey to the top of one of the highest roads in the Alps – the Grossglockner High Alpine road (http://www.grossglockner.at/en/), with its highest point at 2571 m or 8454 feet or nearly twice as high as Britains highest mountain - Ben Nevis. I have crossed the pass already several times before, but until now only by car. I will cycle up from the northern end, which is a bigger climb to the top than from the southern side and it would bring my total vertical ascent to just short of 1800 meters or 6000 feet.

I am also hoping to raise funds and every penny raised will go to my chosen charity – St. Peter’s church in Maidenhead (CofE). In the late 1990s, a decision was made to reorder the church, with a view to making it more suitable to be a modern church and in particular to increase the building’s suitability for other activities, now seen as part of the role of the church in the community in and around Maidenhead. As a church St. Peter’s makes a real difference in the local community, a significant difference that will last. Completion of the Open Church project of St. Peter’s depends entirely upon donations, which would allow the rebuild of the church centre so that an open space for the community to use can be created. It would allow the expansion of valuable work for reaching out to the local community - in particular the youth and young families in Maidenhead.

It is going to be quite a hill that I’m going to take on, and by sponsoring me it will make my training and my journey to the top of the Alps worthwhile. I wouldn’t describe myself as a natural athlete and covering 48 kilometres as well as a vertical climb of 1800 meters will be a major challenge. I hope that you can inspire me to get to the top by sponsoring me. My target is to raise £ 1 for every one meter I'm going up = £ 1800.

Can you please give what you can to this worthy cause.

Many thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely,

EWALD MIZELLI
