Story

Well, I managed to complet the Marathon in a time of 3hrs 51mins and you can read my blog about it here.

Massive thank you to everyone who donated. My next challenge is the BUPA Great North Run and you can read about it here;

There are many charities, all worthy, but my choice was fairly easy. To be blind or deaf is a tremendous challenge, but to be both really is unimaginable. When I heard about the work that Sense does it was a really easy decision to support them.

Noah was born with one extra chromosome, and as a result he is deafblind, with limited sight and very little hearing.

With support from Sense, Noah and his family are learning Makaton – a language programme that combines signs, symbols and speech.

Every day Noah learns new words which make his mum and dad very proud. Noah also enjoys music therapy sessions at Sense where he enthusiastically plays the drum.

By sponsoring my run you can help to teach a child like Noah new signs to use to tell his mother what he needs, wants and likes.

Go on, you know you want to!

I am aiming to raise £2,000 and, if successful, have agreed to run the Kielder marathon in October dressed as a character of your choice. We will have a poll of all of those people who sponsor me and the character with the most votes will win. Suggested characters to date include; A Smurf, The Grinch or one of the Seven Dwarfs (I am seeing a pattern here!)

On April 28th it will be one year exactly to the day since I fronted up at DW gym in Byker, a 13st 5lb lump of lard who required assistance to climb the stairs and whose chest almost blacked his eye if he jogged across the road. I signed up to the gym and was introduced to a personal trainer. His name is Craig Browne and he has been instrumental in helping me to improve my fitness, strength, stamina and running ability. I now train 8-9 times a week alternating between weights, general cardio and running. I also visit Kate Disley, of Physio+ a professional Sport/Remedial therapist once a week. Kate ensures I stay supple enough to run and keeps the aches and pains away!

I will provide regular updates both here and on our company website. Our website will have a monthly blog under the title of "Writer on the Run" and it will start in January 2013
