Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know, my darling daughter Evelyn arrived into the world on 19-02-2017, at 35weeks, leaving her 5 weeks premature.

Evelyn was born and presented with breathing difficulties, therefore she was taken onto the neonatal intensive care unit at the the LRI. She there received IV antibiotics due to suspected sepsis. Evelyn is a true soldier and battled through everything that was thrown at her, we were then sent home on our way only 4 days later.

Since being home, Evelyn's weight dropped drastically and she was diagnosed with Jaundice and received phototherapy again in the neonatal intensive care unit at the LRI.

Evelyn recovered well and we were enjoying life at home.

At 4 weeks Evelyn become very unsettled and unwell. She appeared to show signs and symptoms of colic and reflux. After several doctors trips, Evelyn was prescribed gaviscon which made her symptoms incredibly worse and she was admitted into hospital for assessment.

Evelyn was then given ranitidine in which she had a severe allergic reaction causing her eyes and face to swell up.

The reaction went down and we were sent home without Andy treatment...

Evelyn continued to get worse and started to refuse her milk, I battled with GP's and the hospital on several occasions, a mothers instinct just knew my baby wasn't right.

Finally at 8 weeks, we got a diagnosis of CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) Evelyn was prescribed nutramigen milk to help her symptoms. Unfortunately the milk prolonged things for us as Evelyn again got worse. Her milk was changed several times before being prescribed NEOCATE.

Neocate helped massively and finally we were noticing an improvement in our little girl. However,

At 12 weeks, Evelyn was rushed into hospital via a 999 call due to laboured and recessive breathing. We were told Evelyn was suffering with bronchiolitis. On discharge, we were told Evelyn did not have bronchiolitis and her breathing problems were being caused by reflux...

Not happy with her diagnosis I took her back to the GP where she was reffered to an ENT specialist with suspected Laryngomalacia (floppy larynx). A few weeks later Evelyn was given corrective surgery to treat her floppy larynx.

Since the operation Evelyn's breathing had not improved and continued to suffer with a constant wheeze and struggling to breathe. After seeing the allergy consultants, Evelyn was given and inhaler, antihistamines and a Steroid nasal drip due to suspected asthma. At 5 months we were told it was now time to wean Evelyn.

We started her off on basic vegetables and fruit, carrot, parsnip, banana. Evelyn's symptoms slowly started to return, she was unsettled, crying, vominitng, unexplained screaming, not selling and refusing her bottle. We stopped her solids for a while due to a possible banana allergy. A few days later we tried Evelyn with wheatabix mixed with her Neocate milk, Evelyn loved the wheatabix and cried when it had all gone! Sadly a few hours later Evelyn again appeared to be having a severe NON IGE reaction.

We were seen in the allergy department the day later, were we were given the news that's Evelyn was to be diagnosed with FPIES. Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a rare food allergy.

We don't know much about FPIES, as it is very rare and there is not a lot of research, but what I do know is that from now on, it's going to be very hard to feed our little girl. There are very few 'safe' foods that we can trial, but from here onwards becomes a constant worry of wether Evelyn will react to foods causing her to go into vomit to shock.

So here's why I've created this page, please please donate any spare change you have to this fabulous charity! To help raise money and awareness of FPIES. Raising awareness and money for the charity will hopefully enable more research to be carried out into FPIES, it will become a safer condition, less worrying and easier to manage. Thank you for taking time to read Evelyn's story.
