Women for Women International UK - 10K Run for Congo Women - 3rd July · 3 July 2011 ·

Women for Women International supports women who live in some of the world’s most dangerous places. Women enrol on the charity’s year-long training programme, where they learn how to earn and save money, improve their family’s health and make their voices heard at home and in their community.

Story

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to view my page...

On Sunday 3rd July, I will be running 10km in Regents Park to help women devastated by the human conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to rebuild their lives.

The charity run has been organised by Women for Women UK and I am assured that 100% of the money raised goes directly to their programmes in the DRC, which presents one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, amidst a civil war in the Eastern part of the country. This conflict has particularly affected women and girls as they are systematically subjected to sexual violence - the situation is so extreme that Margot Wallström, the UN’s special representative on sexual violence in conflict, has recently called DR Congo the "rape capital of the world."

While the DRC may seem like it's worlds away and we may find it hard to comprehend the plight of these courageous women - that doesn't mean we can sit back and do nothing -

I would really appreciate your support through sponsorship OR you can help through advocacy. By simply raising such issues with friends, family, work colleagues - together, we can bring them to the forefront of discussion and (hopefully) bring about change.

Never underestimate the power of people! He who moved the mountain - began with just one stone.

Thank you very much,

Love Fabia x
