Story

Julie has been my lifelong best friend. My earliest memories of Julie are from the age of 6 or 7, laying on the floor with her dad’s trainers, she was teaching me how to plait. Around the age of 9 spinning ourselves round to Vic Reeves ‘Dizzy’ and strutting along an imaginary catwalk to Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m too sexy for my shirt’. Numerous mornings, I knocked on her door to begin our walk to Place Farm for our days at primary school, walking through the yellow disinfectant to swim in the pool or begging the boys to let us play football,  they never did.

After primary school Julie and I went to separate middles schools however competed against each other in many netball tournaments – not an easy challenge given how tall Julie has always been. We reunited at Castle Manor Upper school during detention from Mr Catterall…. The days when squared paper was a common workbook and putting dots in all the squares was a punishment.

I have so many memories from school and onwards, there isn’t a major achievement in each other lives that hasn’t been shared,….the day Julie passed her driving test , spending pretty much every night for months afterwards driving around in her Renault 5…. Just because we could. The offensive swearword that bounded across the rugby club the day I turned up at her 21st birthday party after telling her I couldn’t make it. The day Julie graduated from Reading University, the tears, and overwhelming pride. Driving Julie around blindfolded with a beaker of champagne to throw her off the location for her surprise 30th birthday party and making her feel very nauseous in the process.

Julie, my best friend, my oldest friend, to me Julie was incredibly intelligent, strong minded, insanely independent, ambitious and stubborn. Julie loved to laugh, her love for travel took us on many journeys together and apart, she always wanted to see as much of the world as she could and to experience life to its fullest.

In June this year the worst happened and Julie was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At the end of July Julie moved to St Nicholas Hospice where she spent her last few weeks. The efforts by St Nicholas Hospice in the last few weeks of Julies life were incredible and I am forever grateful to all of the staff for the support and care they gave to Julie and her family.

It’s now with many tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat and hole in my heart that I realise I’m having to say goodbye to my Julie. But with a smile on my face and warmth in my soul I’m grateful for all of the memories that will live on within me and every single person that ever was lucky enough meet the incredible person that was Julie Charlotte Morse.

Therefore, in Julie's honor we’ll be raising money for St Nicholas Hospice in the Girls Night Out Walk of 11.2 miles on 10th September 2016. Please give anything you can, whether this is to walk yourselves, be a marshal or donate on this page. Thank you.
