Story
Emily was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy in March 2010. This is a degenerative neuromuscular disease for which there is no known treatment or cure. This shock came completely out of the blue and needless to say we were devastated by the news of her condition. However, encouraged by Emily's tenacity, we are determined to do everything we can to fight it. Emily may have restricted mobility, but with her angelic looks, charming nature and cheeky chatter she melts the hearts of everyone she meets.
The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the only national charity in the UK dedicated both to supporting people and families affected by SMA, and investing in essential research into causes, treatments and eventually a cure for the condition.
We are attempting to raise money for this charity in a number of ways this year. Many of our friends have been invited to take up the challenge of playing Fantasy Football against Emily's team and we would welcome any interested newcomers. If you aren't already playing the game then you can register at http://fantasy.premierleague.com Once you have logged in and entered your team, click on the 'Leagues' link you can find on the right of the page, enter the code 1467909-342304 and join.
As a family we ran the Mini Great North Run in September, including Emily, who was the star of the day. It was a struggle for her but she was determined to do it, and with some help from mum and dad, she ran her 1 mile in 13 minutes.
A couple of our fantastic friends are running the Great North Run for us on behalf of the Jennifer Trust and we are deeply touched by their willingness to help. Many others have chosen to help by donating to this worthwhile cause for which we are truly grateful.
Other fund-raising activities planned are a football world-cup barbecue, a cake sale, a hike along Hadrian's Wall, an abseil, a book party, a homeware party and the sale of Christmas cards.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Jennifer Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
