Story
Three years ago, I was in the midst of some fairly terrifying tests and operations to treat the early stages of cervical cancer. This is not an uncommon story and I know that many others amongst you have also been touched and affected by cancer. This is why I am asking for your sponsorship.
One of the promises I made to myself was to take part in an annual challenge to raise money and awareness for cancer charities. The last two years have seen me cycle to Edinburgh and complete a marathon and the dawning of my dreaded annual check-up has spurred me into action for this year's challenge - a half marathon in support of Cancer Research UK.
This is a fantastic charity dedicated to detecting and beating all types of cancer. It is entirely funded by donations so our support is vital to keeping its ground-breaking research and life-saving work going. I realise that a half marathon is not an epic feat of physical prowess, but it's your money I'm after for Cancer Research UK; not your admiration for my efforts, humble as they are.
Another promise I wanted to honour was to encourage others to take their health seriously and to get 'checked out'. In particular, the parts that you can't see, reach or even feel. A bit of undignified probing is a small price to pay - just get on with it!!
I thank you all in advance. Any donation you wish to make is much appreciated. Obviously, I will be nicer to those of you who give more generously.....(kidding). Stay well and have lots of fun! Fxx
