I am travelling to Guatemala on 31st August with the charities Adopt-A-Child and Living Water International who have several Christian feeding and care programmes in some of the poorest and most vulnerable areas of the country. The Charity is about meeting the needs of the whole person and offers hot meals, dental/medical care, schooling/bible study and worship/fellowship to over 7,000 children on 2 or 3 days per week (a further 3,000 are awaiting sponsorship). I will meet my adopted "God-daughter" for the first time and will be taking lots of presents for her and her family. This is an experience in itself that I am thoroughly excited about! I will also spend time with other children and staff in all of the programmes learning about their culture and needs so that I continue to raise awareness and funds for them when I return home.

The charity also offers "Discipleship" to the children who have become young adults through the programmes and now work within the charity to help other vulnerable children. It is of upmost importance that more of the local people are involved with the charity's work and the Country's young people are involved with such good works rather than being involved with crime: drugs, prostitution and gun crime is rife in Guatemala.
