A team of thirteen friends and colleagues from the Finance & Risk department within AXA PPP healthcare have joined together to raise money for the wonderful ‘Hospice in the Weald’. On the 9 June 2012 we will be challenging ourselves to climb the Yorkshire Three Peaks in less than 12 hours (we hope)!
Those participating in this challenge are Carrie Moran, Steve Harland, Carl Dunstall, Darren Field, Chris Tift, Mark Richardson, Marsela Marku, Jamie Pankhurst, Jeme Durici, Mathew Smith, Nadia Duros, Brett Latter and Zoë H, with special thanks to Julie Harland and Keith Edwards who will be our support team throughout the challenge.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a very demanding walk, approximately 24.5 miles long, which takes in the summits of Pen-y-ghent (2,276 feet), Whernside (2,415 feet) and Ingleborough (2,372 feet) all in one circular route. The total climb is 5,200 feet. The footpaths can be very wet and boggy in some places, rugged and rocky in others and it is a real challenge to complete the walk within 12 hours.
The team have been training hard and have had some great walks and experiences together in preparation. Amongst blisters, dodgy knees and dodgy map reading, we’ve had the girls swapping their stilettos for walking boots, one walker refusing to ditch their jeans for the compulsory walking trousers and a dead car battery after a 23 mile walk over 10 hours, (not so fun)! All of these things have added a great deal of amusement to our walks and more importantly have helped with our team-building, giving us the opportunity to really get to know each other!
We have decided to raise money for Hospice in the Weald, as most of us know someone who has been affected by a life-limiting illness and can appreciate how difficult this can be for both those suffering and their loved ones. The Hospice of the Weald provides compassionate, individualised, holistic and supportive care for many people with life-limiting illnesses, their carers and families.
We would greatly appreciate your sponsorship to help achieve our team target and raise as much money as possible for this deserving charity, so please can we ask all our friends, family and colleagues to really dig deep and sponsor us for a very worthwhile cause, your money will really make a difference and will really spur the team on to fulfil this gruelling challenge!
