After months of suffering pain, fatigue, lack of appetite, a change in toilet habits and considerable weight loss, Finlay was very recently diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. This is a lifelong condition. The first child in the UK was diagnosed in 1978 but it is a rapidly growing disease in our country.

Initially, Finlay’s treatment is 8 weeks of a special drink called Modulent which will be all of his nutrition. This is given to him through a gastric tube straight into his stomach and is all he is allowed to eat for the next 8 weeks or so. This is a relatively new treatment which basically allows the gut to rest and restore. He will also need other drugs once further testing is completed.

Charities like CICRA (Chron’s in Children Research Assosciation) and Chron’s and Colitis UK are leading lights in developing advances in treatments as well as providing support and vital information.

Since Finlay is having to make a huge sacrifice with his diet for at least the next 8 weeks, it’s only fair that his family support him. Particularly difficult over the Christmas period. I will be giving up all processed sugar (chocolate, sweets, biscuits etc) Walter is giving up crisps, Jessica has decided no fizzy juice will pass her lips and Carrie has vowed not to eat any McDs.

Please help us, either by donating, moral support or read up on Chron’s to help develop awareness of this condition.

Many thanks.
