Story

I promised that I would earn my sponsorship after unfortunately having to pull out of the Edinburgh marathon due to illness/back injuries/broken arm so here it is! On September 23rd I will be running the Bristol 1/2 marathon followed by a 50km cycle loop! This should take around 5 hours so hopefully still worth the donations given- and some more from others to help me reach my target! HEART UK is an amazing charity- please read more about it below :) Thanks again to all, lots of love fee xxxx

Last year I started a new job as a research dietitian and it involves doing a PhD which is looking at the impact of diet and physical activity in children and their parents with a condition called familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). FH is an inherited genetic disorder causing very high cholesterol from birth. I was unaware of this condition before I started my PhD and i want to help HEART UK with their fantastic support they offer to people affected with FH and those with high cholesterol from other causes. In particular I want to help raise money to support their amazing efforts to raise awareness of this condition which, if untreated, substantially increases someone's risk of having an early heart attack. If identified and treated early with life long management, individuals can expect to live as long as someone without FH. However, while 1 in 250 adults in the UK are estimated to have FH only 15% have been diagnosed. High cholesterol is generally symptomless meaning that unfortunately most people only realise they have FH after experiencing an early heart attack. By raising awareness, implementing screening programs and improving the care offered to patients, we can save lifes!
