Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Alzheimers is a devastating and indiscriminate disease, impacting not only on the life of the sufferer, but also family and friends. In all it's forms, dementia robs the sufferer of their memories, their wishes and feelings, and their dignity. It is destructive and debilitating, causing immense emotional suffering.
My mother in law suffered from Dementia, and I witnessed the deterioration of a woman who was strong, talented and self-assured, to a fragile, vulnerable, childlike shell of her former self.
So many people are asking for sponsorship for equally worthwhile charities, so Elf Day caught my eye because I can raise money at the same time as engaging in one of my favourite activities - no, not dressing up, but selling my fairy doors!
Although the official event is a run, I'm being true to form and doing my own thing! This old fairy doesn't do running - unless it's to reach the baker's shop just before closing time - so I'm going to dress up as one of Santa's Elves!
It's nearly Christmas, so I'll dress up as an elf at each of my events in the run up to the big day: I'll be swapping my fairy wings and apron for the whole outfit, and will simply be asking people to put money in my collecting tin, donate here or by selling fairy doors: I'll be donating a percentage of the profits from each fairy door, and would be delighted to design a memorial door for a loved one.
I haven't set a high target - I know that any amount will be appreciated by the Alzheimers Society - but it would be lovely to exceed this!
