Dear family and friends,

As you obviously know, we are getting married!

It is now 7 years ago, that Fiona and Steffen flew out on the 9th of September 2006, to Eritrea to become VSO volunteers. We had our bags packed and both of us had the idea that we were making our dreams come true to work abroad. What we did not know was that we would meet each other. But on the 25th of November love was in the air and since then we never parted. 

The first year was sometimes difficult, as we were not living around the corner. Travelling in Eritrea wasn't easy and the fact that Steffen was in a black zone, didn't help either. We finished the first year by travelling through the south of Africa together, at last being able to spend a lot of time with each other.

The second year was much easier, with Fiona moving to the lowlands. Together we were able to deliver workshops for teachers, encourage each other in our work and experience the wonderful life and celebrations of the Eritreans with the two of us.

After our Eritrean adventure, we decided that we wanted to see more of the world. Together we worked and travelled around Uganda, Nigeria, and Myanmar and now we are in Bangladesh. 

Last year we have become the proud parents of Michelle. She is a real gift of God and every day we feel blessed with her in our midst. 

And now after seven years we will (finally) get married. 

As we are living in Bangladesh, we will be unable to carry all beautiful gifts back to our home in Gobindagonj. Besides, our VSO years have thought us that we do not need many material items. Life without them is quite often more enjoyable. We would like the gift of smiles and smiles we have received in our lives together, from each other, but also from the people around us. By donating to VSO, we are sure that there will be many smiles created on the faces of people. Smiles on the faces of the volunteers, smiles on the faces of the people they work with and smiles on the faces of the people that they are able to help better. Last but not least, it will make the three of us, Michelle, Fiona and Steffen smile, if VSO can continue their great work!
