Story

Well if we weren't really cyclists when this started, we certainly are now!  Though technically speaking, we're a running club.  Not one of those terrifying sprint-off-into-the-distance-never-to-seen-again type of clubs, nor are we the 'eat-my-dust' variety.  We're Fitmums and Friends - we're varying levels of fit, we're not all mums and with the recent introduction of social membership, we're not all runners either.

When we're not running (and sometimes when we are), we like to raise an extra bob or two for worthy causes that are close to our hearts - and it's fair to say that we've done some pretty quirky stuff under the Fitmums banner.  So when our very own founder and friend Sam Barlow had another of her 'little ideas'... somehow... despite the scale of the challenge... and after a three hour planning session (admittedly in the local) the Fitmums Cycle Squad - and THOR - were born!

In a nutshell, 25 amazing people (all shapes and sizes, both genders, 50 shades of wary) got together in January this year to bravely don padded lycra (and bright pink tops) and begin a gruelling winter training schedule to prepare us for a monster challenge, cycling from Hull to Oxford, over three days, setting off on 1st May.

Well... 232 miles, lots of aching muscles, some sore bottoms and a whole lot of laughter later - and we've done it!  THOR has been a tough ask of all of us but aside from cajoling (and occasionally heckling) each other, there is one driving force that has helped to keep our pedals turning long after our bottoms were numb - and that's the knowledge that every mile we covered has raised vital funds for the Brain Tumour Charity.  And that's down to the most amazing generosity of people like you - reading this - and digging deep to support this fantastic cause.

The Brain Tumour Charity makes a real and tangible difference for everyone living with a brain tumour.  We put a number of worthy charities to the vote and this came out tops as the closest to our hearts.  Our very own Sam and her husband Mike (coach and massive supporter of Fitmums) have gone through the trauma and uncertainty of living with cancer, and despite one of the toughest ordeals that can face a family, they somehow have the most fantastic attitude to life, continuing to inspire and support the rest of us in more ways than they'll ever realise.

This has been such an adventure from start to finish and we've all made some incredible memories and some very special friends.  Thank you all so much for your support - and if you haven't yet been able to donate, it's never too late!!
