The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I know this is the wrong way round – eg I have already done the event – but a training injury the week before the race meant I really didn't think I'd finish it, so I didn't want to ask for donations just in case.

But thankfully I was able to complete the course (1.5km swim, 42km bike ride, 10km run – horrrible!) – proof here! (Look for 101st position on page 3.)

So I thought I should raise money as orginally intended.

So why the ME Association?

ME or CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) has unfortunately directly affected friends of mine.

It's a debilitating, long-lasting illness that turns a fit, healthy, active person into someone who can barely do anything – even the lightest physical exertion can be beyond them.

A short walk or simple task can result in two or three days of bed rest – it's known as the 'living death' for good reason. This can go on for decades.

Despite much wider recognition of the illness in recent years, the causes remain unknown and there's no sign of a cure.

There are an estimated 250,000 sufferers in the UK alone, including 25,000 children (it's the greatest cause of long-term school absence) and still there's little support for them or their families.

The ME Association provides much needed support and funds biomedical research, which ultimately gives sufferers hope that one day they will be able to lead a normal life again.

Any donation is much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your support,

Flemmich
