Story
Thank you very much for visiting Frances and Abraham's JustGiving page. Well, we did it - our cycle ride along the River Lee! THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all the people who have kindly sponsored us already - and if you've been thinking of doing so, it's not too late. You have till September to put some money into our JustGiving account - every little helps.
To try and persuade you - just reflect on how we suffered as we cycled 18 miles along the River Lee in Hertfordshire to raise money for the CAFOD Westminster Pedal Against Poverty campaign. It was not the idyllic family outing I had been hoping for - although most of the route was very pretty, with woods and lakes as well as the River Lee itself. It rained the whole time, during ride and picnic, and there was an icy wind. And none of that was as bad as the traffic jams both ways between Fulham and the River Lee. So, you see, we do deserve some recognition ...
Just to remind you, CAFOD is the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development, which is working to help people in some of the world's poorest communities. In case you're worried that CAFOD is an old-style missionary organisation, just aiming to convert vulnerable people to Catholicism - don't worry! CAFOD helps people of all faiths and none. It's working on dozens of projects in over 40 countries - for example, to combat AIDS and hunger in Ethiopia (a country both of us know and love), or to stop the destruction of forests in Cambodia. If this year's ride can raise a total of £15,000, that would be enough money for CAFOD to bring clean water to 15 shanty towns in Latin America. (Abe's photo on this page shows him in Mexico a couple of years ago.)
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and completely secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they won't sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So we really hope that you will donate now - a little, or a lot, it's all welcome and valuable! Thank you very much
