We rescue injured & orphaned wildlife to relieve suffering and aid conservation

Story

In October I will be flying to Nepal to spend November on an expedition to Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar and the Gokyo Lakes. I’ll be trekking through the Himalaya – the roof of the world – to raise money for HART Wildlife Rescue Centre who provide life-saving treatment to our British wildlife, be it orphaned fox cubs, injured owls or starving hedgehogs. Please sponsor me to raise money to save our wildlife! I am paying for the whole expedition myself - flights, sherpas, tents, food - so all of your donation will go straight to HART Wildlife Rescue.

My expedition will take me through a land of legends, of George Everest, Hillary and Norgay, of Sherpas, and of ancient Buddhist monasteries and brightly-coloured prayer flags. My route will involve hiking through rhododendron forests, wild camping with Sherpa guides, ascending snow-covered glaciers, crossing valleys of turquoise lakes and summitting Gokyo Ri (5483m) and Kalar Patthar (5545m). Here, there will be breath-taking views of the summit of Everest, or, as the Nepali revere her, "Sagarmartha", and at base camp I will be able to meet mountaineers leaving for the summit before I descend on meandering trails and icy mountain ridges. Having never been at high altitude before, it will be the toughest challenge I have ever done. It will take 3 weeks, and a lot of blood, loads of sweat (there won't be a shower) and tears!

Seven years ago, when I was 22, I moved to Canada to become a wildlife rehabilitator myself. Here, I provided medical treatment and care to black bears, coyotes, otters and raccoons. Since returning to the UK, I have been heart broken by our diminishing wildlife populations, which are principally decreasing due to human-driven habitat loss. Our wildlife needs a serious helping hand to recover, and rehabilitating our injured fellow inhabitants of this planet is a critical step in achieving this. By saving one animal, you won't change the world, but you will change the world for that animal, and for me, that's worth every step of the way.

The vast majority of these animals are in care because of human activity. Many have been hit by a car or attacked by someone's cat. Below are examples of how your vital funds will help these injured animals:

£10 – Will feed a poorly hedgehog for a week

£20 – Will provide a week-long course of antibiotics for an injured fox cub

£40 – Pays a vet to carry out x-rays

£100 – Will power 5 incubators to keep orphaned baby birds warm for a week
