Story

Frosty’s May Marathon Challenge

Hi Everyone,

My name is Frosty Cooper-Price.  I turned 14 years old in March and still love to go out for a daily ‘mighty hike’.

These treks generally involve covering between 0.6 and 1 WHOLE MILE in anything from 25 to 50 minutes.  These epic times are achieved by meticulously sticking to a tried and tested regime of sniffs and cocking of legs on bushes, flowers, walls, fences, lamp posts, road signs, car wheels, caravans or blades of grass found en route.  To achieve and maintain such an incredible walking pace my target is between 289 and 1,257 sniffs or leg cocks per walkies.

I normally go out with my mum as she is a lot more patient than my Dad who frequently tries to limit my number of sniffs and leg cocks to below 200, leading to decidedly unsatisfactory walkies - whereas my mum loves stopping every 3 to 4 seconds and never ever gets annoyed - although as I am completely deaf I wouldn’t hear her anyway, so I am not bothered!

During May I have decided to selflessly commit my walkies to raise money and awareness for the Cotswolds dogs and cats home; where my mum has worked as a volunteer for over 2 years - until the lock down started.  [Note from my mum - Unfortunately the CDCH charity shops have had to close and the regular fund raising activities and open days have had to be put on hold - so the centre is currently losing around 30K of funding per month].

Some people may wrongly assume that walking a mile a day isn’t a challenge worthy of sponsorship - but I am 98 in human years and whilst I am still going strong, I have had two cruciate repair surgeries - so my back legs contain a similar amount of metal to the bionic man.

Through my mum, I will provide regular progress updates and if you are really lucky I will include details of my favourite sniffing spots in my local area to be passed on to my canine friends, feel free to use them for your own leg cocking activities.  Whilst my mighty hikes don’t cover a wide area, if you do see me out and about do give me and my mum a wave - there is no point trying to talk to me though as I can’t hear you and I don’t lip read - oh and please keep in mind social distancing.

Lots of woofs, sniffs and leg cocking,

Frosty Cooper-Price
