Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend at the Samye Ling Monastery in Eskdalemuir here in the Scottish Borders. This was very soon after the first cataclysmic earthquake that struck Nepal and its capital city of Kathmandu.
Over that weekend we were able to hear from Ani Yeshe Zangmo about the desperate conditions in the country including the Children’s Home in Kathmandu run by the charity ROKPA based in Samye Ling. I was struck by the compassion shown by the nuns, monks and volunteers working with ROKPA and their calm determination to help the needy and improve their lives. When I got home I started to fill in my standing order form to set up a monthly donation, but felt that I wanted to contribute more. So………………
On Friday the 19th of June, myself and a number of colleagues in the IT Department of Scottish Borders Council will be walking to work to raise as much money as we possibly can for ROKPA UK. I will be walking approximately 15 miles and setting off from my home at three o’clock in the morning to arrive at work for around 08:45. A number of colleagues will be joining me for some, or all of the walk, and others will be making their way from various locations throughout the central borders.
Every penny raised will go to ensuring that the children left homeless by this series of earthquakes, will once again have a safe, loving home to protect them from the worst of the coming monsoon weather and help them to be brought up to be responsible and self-confident human beings who will never have to go begging again.
