The Lady Garden Foundation is revolutionising women's gynaecological health. We raise awareness and funding to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the five gynaecological cancers (Ovarian, Cervical, Vulval, Vaginal, Womb(Uterine)).

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In 2017 we are looking to raise money for the Gynaecological Cancer Fund (GCF) by entering a series of running events totaling at least 100 miles. The events will be spread throughout the year and will include 4 half marathons, two 10 mile trail runs, and five 10k runs including a 'home soil' run taking on an extended version of the notorious Ramsey Island '3 peak challenge' with special guests! (see full list of events below) Why are we doing this?.....

Greg's story - Lisa's cousin, Kate, was diagnosed with a rare form of gynaecological cancer in 2016 aged just 40. She has undergone several operations plus chemotherapy and is still battling the condition. The Royal Marsden hospital has provided her with expert care and through the Gynaecological Cancer Fund they are seeking to raise £750,000 over three years for research into new targeted treatments for gynaecological cancers (£500,000 has already been raised). It also wants to raise awareness with women (& their partners) of the symptoms of gynaecological cancers. Her courage, tenacity and determination to spread the word on a form of cancer that can be still be seen as taboo is all the inspiration I need to rise to our challenge.

Sarah's story - In 2013 I lost my lovely dad to a rare form of lung cancer called Leiomyosarcoma. He had always been super fit and cycled every day. He had managed to carry on working for over a year after diagnosis, he loved his profession as a chef and had over the years built up legions of loyal customers. He finally retired so that he could focus on recovery from major surgery to remove a third of his lung. We all hoped that he had won his battle with this very aggressive cancer. Dad was so positive and brave always believing he would beat it. So very sadly, after months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he lost his battle and we lost a very very special dad.

Two stories, two different forms of cancer but ultimately the battle to defeat the disease is as one. The gynaecological cancer fund is a targeted appeal to not only serve this aim but to raise awareness of the fight and get us to all speak out

Our event schedule for 2017:

  • 10/2 - Great Orme 10k, north Wales (6 miles)
  • 25/2 - St Davids half marathon, Pembrokeshire (13 miles)
  • 6/5 - Preseli Beast Bach, Pembrokeshire (11 miles)
  • July (date TBC) - Ramsey 3 peaks 10k (6 miles)
  • Aug (date TBC) - St Clears 10k, Carms (6 miles)
  • *new* 19/8 - Head to Head Coastal marathon, Pembs (26 miles)
  • 24/9 - Pembrokeshire half marathon (13 miles)
  • 1/10 - Cardiff half marathon (13 miles)
  • 20/10 - Exmoor off road half marathon (13 miles)
  • 20/11 - SRR MT10 - multi terrain event, Carms (10 miles)
  • Dec (date TBC) - Broadhaven 10k, Pembs (6 miles)

This sums to 101 miles (maths was never our strong point!) and while most are confirmed, a few are subject to change if more challenging events come our way! Keep tabs on this page for updates.

*update* We've since added a coastal marathon to the list (whose bright idea was that?!) making the total (with the removal of a 10k that clashed with other commitments) to 123 miles - the marathon is called the 'Head to Head' and takes in 26 miles of the spectacular (but hilly!) Pembrokeshire Coast Path from St Anne's Head to St David's Head

If you have read this far thank you and we appreciate every penny that you are able to donate.
