Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity bringing individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Story

Pedal, Paddle, Peak!! Many teams, 3 challenges, 1 day!!

Over 70,000 people suffer with a muscle wasting condition in the UK

We use muscles every day, almost without realising it. To speak, to hug,
to laugh. In fact, every swallow, every breath, and every heartbeat is powered by muscles.

This can also be related to GEFCO, the logistics and supply chain across
the World.

“We use logistics every day, almost without realising it. To sleep, eat,
move. In fact, every object, every item is delivered by a supply chain where the heartbeat is powered by GEFCO
😊

GEFCO OVL / RPS Division has decided to support the UK Charity of
Muscular Dystrophy and will enter teams in to the challenging team event of Pedal, Paddle, Peak on June 8th 2019.

Teams of 4 persons will work together to each cycle a 30 mile undulating course, then paddle 2 miles in canoes before ascending and descending Helvellyn Mountain, the second highest peak in England. The teams will work together as a team to complete this as one, leaving nobody behind and the challenge on average takes 9 hours non-stop!

The teams have been driven on to support this charity as two colleagues, Stephane Martinet and Roy Fenner, have family members who suffer with the condition.

Roy’s youngest son, Owen 15, has a rare form of the condition called
SEPN1 which has affected his muscles and in particular the breathing and so Owen needs support with his breathing during the night.

Stephane’s partner, Laura 30, has a condition called laminopathy (LGMD1B) characterized by weak muscles and which affects her heart.

Unfortunately, as Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic condition there is no known cure at present, however MDUK support medical research and help families with various needs caused by the condition. MDUK offer a free helpline for all support and also connect families who are going through similar experiences.  MDUK is self-funding and therefore looks for public support to continue with research with the aim to make MD a condition that is curable.
