Story
Thanks for coming to our fundraising page, we're braving ourselves for this challenge and need all the support we can get.
Bex Lees-Smith, Jon Connolly, Becca Vaslet and Peter Dewhurst are taking part in The Cheese Classic organised to raise funds for the new Gloucester Boathouse. We have decided to take the challenge one step further and are going to make this a triathlon:
First we cycle from our current boathouse in Bristol Road all the way to Purton (near Sharpness) which is 30km, which is up and down hill all the way so our legs will get warm.
Then we row from Purton all the way back to the boathouse which is 20km in a coxless quad which we've not trained together in! By this point our hands will be sore and legs will be starting to turn to jelly.
Finally we get out of the boat and run along the tow path to Gloucester docks and back which is a further 6km, which is when we collapse in a heap at the club.
BUT this is not all, we are also aiming to do all of the above in under 4 hours. As none of us are triathletes this is one hell of a challenge and its only 2 weeks away.
So why are we doing this? Well we need a new boathouse desperately and there's around £50,000 left to raise to make it a reality. Our current boathouse has no heating or running hot water, its been broken into so many times we can't keep anything there that's not tied down, we don't have space for all the boats, the landing stage is disintegrating, the roof in the gym leaks, the changing rooms can't fit our bags let alone our bodies in.............shall I go on?
The new boathouse will provide all those things plus facilities to offer rowing to the disabled (and be a British rowing center of excellence), better and safer facilities for junior rowing and be able to better support our fantastic Henley winners and GB squad members hopefully bringing more through in the future.
So please support us to reach our goal and make it worth the pain.
