Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been lucky enough to secure a place in Virgin London Marathon through the initial ballot. This is absolutely brilliant but also means lots and lots of training!
I have decided to support the Leicester General Maternity Special Baby Care Unit through the Leicester Hospitals Charity. Our baby daughter Isabella was born at the General on 27 August 2010 and thankfully did not require any specialised post natal support. However, some babies born at the hospital do need an additional level of support after birth.
More than one in 10 babies born today need some level of specialist care at birth and around one in 50 will need some level of neonatal intensive care. Twenty years ago, about 20% of babies weighing less than 1kg (2lb 2oz) at birth survived. Nowadays, about 80% will survive. The specialist care now routinely available gives even tiny babies, born months early, a fighting chance. The staff in the Maternity unit were absolutely fantastic to us and worked tirelessly throughout the night to ensure the safe arrival of our baby daughter. I would like to support this charity as a token of our thanks and in a small way help others see their children have the best possible start to life.
