We help people with acquired brain injury to rebuild their lives

Story

We (Gareth & Gavin) are putting our bodies on the line for a great cause  Why are we fundraising?

Dave Hobbs is a pillar of the Rhiwbina Rugby Club and wider community who puts his energy and passion into everything he does. Dave has worked tirelessly for many years to ensure the people of Rhiwbina and wider community have the chance to participate in sport and reap the benefits of coming together in social gatherings. The importance of which is now fully understood because it is something that everyone is missing during the pandemic.

Since breaking the news of his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer Dave has taken on the challenge the only way he knows how, with positivity, energy and selflessness. During this difficult time Dave is putting others first and is looking to raise much needed funds for a number of
local charities. To support Dave in his efforts people have raised a great deal of money for a range of cancer charities,  but he has now asked if people's efforts could now focus on a Cardiff based charity, Headway Cardiff.

Headway Cardiff help people affected by acquired brain injury to rebuild their lives. Acquired Brain Injury can happen to anyone, anywhere at any time. Lives can be changed in an instant. Headway
Cardiff support individuals with Acquired Brain Injury to regain their
independence and help their families, friends and carers adapt to a new way of life. They offer social groups, life skills sessions, counselling, an Information & Outreach service and an Independence & Wellbeing Centre based at Rookwood Hospital.

We wish to raise much needed funds and go some way to repaying Dave for the way he has been such a positive impact on many lives. Which also includes him & his lovely wife Elaine who over the years managed to fit in a vocation as respite foster parents, fostering in excess of 120 children.

So on Saturday 12th June 2021 we will be riding (Mountain Bikes, non- electric) over 100kms from Tetbury Rugby Club in Gloucestershire, which Dave helped set up, to Rhiwbina Rugby Club, which is a club that he holds very dear to his heart. It is anticipated to take about 8 to 10 hours which for a pair of late fifties ex rugby players will prove a challenge in itself.   But one that we are willing to undertake for such an awesome man and worthy charity.
