Story
The Purbeck 16 is part of the Purbeck Marathon and takes
place in Swanage, Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast which has spectacular history,
landscape and views.
The course with around 2323 feet of climbs provides a predominately
off-road run of approx. 16.5 miles that is both challenging and rewarding.
This is more than a half marathon in more ways than one!
The Purbeck 16 has a number of hard climbs, uneven paths and
is nothing like running a road based race…
This will be an incredible achievement if (when) I survive
it, as the furthest I have previously run (in my life) is 10K, and so only another 16K to go on top.
The Bfn organisation does brilliant things to support not
only the mothers through this sometimes new and unfamiliar experience, but also gives the next generation the best possible start to their life ahead. Some women really need that extra support, encouragement and sometimes can struggle so much that it can cause anxiety and even distress about something that should be a natural and rewarding experience.
I speak from experience, as with our first daughter it was
during one of these stressful moments of early attempts to breastfeed that my wife collapsed and had to be recovered by paramedics and taken to hospital to spend the first week of our daughters life.
Bfn supports helplines, volunteers, drop-in centres,
collects and disseminates information on breastfeeding and baby and infant nutrition. (An interesting new study has concluded that women who breastfeed are less likely to develop endometriosis)
