In August, 2017, I was given the incredible gift of being there when my granddaughter was born in Cambridge, England.  Nina was born three months prematurely, weighing 1.5 pounds, with an inoperable heart condition.  She would not survive.

However, thanks to the generosity and compassion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Nina was kept alive for eight days so that family could meet her and say good-bye to her.  At the end of Nina’s life, the Acute Neonatal Transport Service (ANTS) transported her to her home to pass away peacefully in the arms of her parents, my daughter and son-in-law, Kristie & Fred Goldberg.  The NICU and ANTS teams helped make this tragedy a little less burdensome on them.

My wife Ruth, my sister Toni and I decided to complete the 200 mile Camino de Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage as both a spiritual and financial tribute to baby Nina.  We are raising funds to make a donation to The Rosie’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Acute Neonatal
Transport Service in appreciation of the care they provided Nina and the endless compassion shown to her parents.  Ruth and Toni are walking while I will bicycle the route.
