George's Channel Swim

Swimming the Channel · 9 August 2017
It still seems a bit presumptuous for me to be thinking of joining the legends who have swum the English Channel, many from the Serpentine Swimming Club, where I swim daily. I have been inspired to give it a go by seeing my daughters swim across the Channel in a relay with their schoolmates in 2014. I shall be thinking of them, my fellow club members, and the funds that I shall be raising for Back-Up, as I battle fatigue, cold, tides, sickness, boredom, darkness, jellyfish, and the enormity of the task that lies before me. I expect it to take around 16-20 hours if I can keep going for long enough. I shall have an excellent pilot and crew looking after me.
I have been raising funds for the Back-Up Trust over a number of years now and have got to know many of the remarkable people who work for them and whom they have helped to make the most of their lives after suffering serious spinal injury.
