We help refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives here in the UK.

Story

With two weeks of (pathetic) training, no prior experience or any record of physical achievement other than my 50m swimming badge, I've decided to attempt an unsupported walk around the Isle of Wight for Race for Refugees, setting off on 18 August.

Almost the equivalent of three marathons, I'm aiming to complete this hilly 70-mile journey around the island in 4 days with just a (possibly quite heavy) backpack, tent, and some good shoes!

As Refugee Action is Grayling's chosen charity, my colleagues will also be supporting me along the way by walking, running, dancing, or cycling part of the way from anywhere between Edinburgh to Southampton.

Please donate whatever you can for this important campaign and help us to make an impact.

Every year people make dangerous journeys to reach our shore and claim asylum. They have fled conflict and persecution and are desperately seeking safety. But the system they rely on all too often fails them. Instead of safety and shelter, they can be left hungry and homeless on our streets whilst they wait, sometimes years, to get a decision that in many cases is wrong. It's unfair and ineffective. It doesn't have to be this way. I believe a future is possible where those forced to flee the homes they loved receive compassion, a fair decision, essential support, and help to rebuild their lives. I've joined Refugee Action's Race for Refugees to make my move and race to change the system for good.

I, and those that will benefit from this fundraising, would appreciate it if you could share this far and wide to raise as much as possible, tagging #RaceForRefugees
