Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having gone through the trauma of domestic abuse and the stigma associated with it, (because I’m a man) and the two years of counselling I went through. When I heard about Oasis Project, I knew I had to do something.
My trusty steed (a hand cycle) and I are taking to the streets of Brighton in the towns half marathon in February next year. For me it will be a gruelling experience, (after all, I am 68) and no spring chicken and it’s up hill in places

.
Being in an abusive relationship is soul destroying!

The perpetrators intention is total domination, and in extreme cases can lead to Death (murder). This is not an easy subject to discuss in public and many will deny its happening to them because they believe the word LOVE may be behind it all. (I fell into that trap). The abuse is subtle at first, like me, I didn’t notice it and it went over my head. Everything becomes about them, (the perpetrator) you become increasingly insignificant and barely tolerated. I was LUCKY, my abuse was manly verbal. If you’ve ever felt drained? Times that condition by a thousand. (I kid you not)

Luckily (such an insidious word) for me, I was told what was happening by a young woman (both she and her child had suffered a worse fate). But she LOVES me I said!

I was put on an ‘at risk’ register by social services; my doctor, after I had found the courage to tell someone. (It wasn’t courage really, it was the thought of throwing oneself off Beachy Head; that’s where I was, totally destroyed). He sent me initially to ‘chat’ with someone from a ‘time to talk’ program.

Who would believe my story, I kept asking myself, me a grown man? But they did! And, I’m so grateful to those wonderful people who literally saved my life.

I’m eternally grateful to all my friends who encourage and respect ME, for who I really am. Many have no idea I’ve been through this ordeal. Not the ideal dinner conversation is it?

The Oasis Project needs our help, mine, and yours. I am lucky (there it goes again) but many women aren’t. They need our help. To get them happy and healthy and more importantly…. SAFE!

Please donate, I know times are really tough, we are all struggling. That £1 could make all the difference, please don’t be embarrassed by donating just a pound. It’s exactly the same as donating ‘just’ a fiver, ‘just’ a tenner, ‘just’ a score. That one pound is ‘JUST’ as important, probably more so, and I will clap and cheer just as loudly and be forever grateful. So will those suffering women and their children that pound will help!

God bless!

And thanks

George
