Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Since the tragic and unexpected death of Dale Butler in 2009, his family and friends have been doing all they can to raise money for the charity CRY (cardiac risk in the young). For those of you that didn't know Dale, he was an easy going, happy young man with a fantastic sense of humour and a personality to match. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and a loyal friend - constantly making everyone laugh. If you knew Dale it is impossible not to smile when you think of him.
Dale lived his short life at 100 miles an hour; his sense of fun was paramount in everything he did. Dale touched so many lives in a positive way; in short he was an amazing and individual person, everything about him will be missed by many forever. He was taken suddenly whilst playing football with friends on December 4th 2009 aged just 18, the cause, Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. At least 12 young people every week die from similar undiagnosed heart conditions.
The charity is doing great work through heart screening, ECG testing programmes, medical research and much, much more. This is genuinely saving the lives of many seemingly young, healthy individuals and stopping the sort of heartbreak that has swept through Dale's family and friends. Please have a look at their website, http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/index.htm, it will probably be a real eye opener into what is a serious and wipespread problem which is relevant to everyone!!! The more people are aware of YSCD and SDS, the more can be done about it.
Me and my two friends Sam and Ed are also fundraising with me, and we intend to raise as much money as possible for CRY. To do this, we have decided to do a sponsored lone skydive. This is no namby pamby strap yourself to someone and let them do all the work skydive, it's a 2 day course, at the end of which you do the jump on your own , pull your own cord and land yourself safely (probably in the top of a tree somewhere).
We are complete novices so it should be a bit of a challenge, but the 2 tedious days in a class room and throwing ourselves head first out of a plane 15,000 ft in the air with nothing but a glorified bed sheet to soften the blow will be well worth it if we can get anywhere close to the £1000 that we are trying to raise.
Please please please donate anything you can, every donation will mean alot to us but will genuinely mean so much more to Dale's family and the 1000's of other families that are affected in the same way.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
