I have decided to take time out from chasing sheep on the farm at home and do something useful which hopefully will benefit the wider countryside community.
The objective is to raise money for the countryside alliance, who are currently supporting some great projects in our countryside, these include Fishing for schools, rural broadband and action on fly-tipping.
The Countryside Alliances also keep up the good work on the hunting front, waiting for the right political moment to push though the repeal act.
You are probably all wondering what the challenge is; well, I have agreed to sled 200 kilometres across the Arctic wilds of Norway where temperatures can fall as low as -30C. After a days training, I will be in sole charge of my team of six huskies that will tow me across the icy landscape (I hope they are ready for this!) Myself and nine other participants, a doctor and two local guides aim to sled between 25 and 55 kilometres a day (terrain dependant). Whist sledding, we must assist our huskies by dismounting and helping to push on difficult uphill stretches. Mother can't wait to chase me up the gallop on her quad to get me fit! Once the sun goes down we have various isolated cabins waiting for our arrival. Once the huskies are fed, watered and comfortable for the night, we must drill for water, collect firewood and prepare our evening feast. Apparently Reindeer Stock soup is a real delicacy!!!
Over the next few months I aim to raise a minimum of £5000, which seems an awful lot, but it is a charity I feel strongly about and has some campaigns I believe will benefit ourselves and our future generations.
The task in hand commences on the 30 March 2012, however I am hoping to meet my ambitious target by the New Year so I can focus on toning my physique! Your support on this exciting venture will be much appreciated, however big or small.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story and I hope you can support me and my able huskies!
