Story

Hi Folks,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I will be taking part in the 2023 London Marathon in April.

I have chosen to run for the charity CICRA. They lead and specialise in life changing research to provide support, work with health professionals and to increase public understanding of crohns and colitis.

You may wonder why I have chosen this charity…Unfortunately in November 2022, my girlfriend (Nancy) suddenly lost her mother. Nancy’s mum (Amanda) fought chronic Crohns Disease for 22 years and she was only 51 when she died.

Shortly after the birth of Nancy, Amanda was diagnosed with Crohns Disease. Crohns completely changed and impacted Amanda’s life. Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes swelling of the tissues (inflammation) in your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition.

By running the London Marathon for CICRA I aim to spread awareness of the severity of Crohns Disease whilst remembering Amanda.

Although CICRA's work mainly focuses on supporting children with crohns & colitis. They carry out vital research towards finding better treatments and with hope of an eventual cure. There is an estimated 500,000 people in the UK who are affected by crohns. By fundraising for CICRA, I hope to contribute to the vital work which the charity provide and hopefully make a difference to at least 1 persons life who has been impacted.

GT x
